Mormonism Explained

New!   Mormonism Explained

Mormons are attracting more and more attention from many Christian denominations as their numbers skyrocket and their successes on the mission field become apparent. But there is confusion and sometimes fear about what the Church of Latter-day Saints actually believes.

In Mormonism Explained: What Latter-day Saints Teach and Practice, author Andrew Jackson, a seminary professor and ordained Presbyterian minister, discusses Mormon faith and practices. In a "meticulously researched" book that springs in part from his work in a community with a large LDS population, Jackson details the history and theology of the Mormon church and explains its important differences from other Christian denominations. Throughout this book, Jackson adopts the tone of a careful teacher "who seeks to explain rather than to merely debunk."

Michael S. Moore, professor at Fuller Theological Seminary, hails Mormonism Explained as "One of the most comprehensive handbooks on the Latter-day Saints in print today."

Engaging With the Holy Spirit

New!   Engaging with the Holy Spirit

Despite the growth of the charismatic movement and Pentecostal churches, people still have questions—and even troubling concerns—about the person and work of the Holy Spirit. These real questions are the burden of Graham A. Cole's book Engaging with the Holy Spirit, which seeks to sequentially address from throughout Scripture six crucial questions that affect a person’s relationship to the Spirit:

  • What is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit?
  • How does a person resist the Spirit?
  • Ought we to pray to the Spirit?
  • How do we quench the Spirit?
  • How do we grieve the Spirit?
  • How does the Holy Spirit fill us?

Each chapter is devoted to one question and challenges readers about their relationship with the Spirit and about Christian living in general. Readers are also given key elements for thinking theologically and implications for their belief and behavior. It’s a brief, reader-friendly book full of solid, reassuring answers.
