In My Place Condemned He Stood

New!   In My Place Condemned He Stood: Celebrating the Glory of the Atonement

What did Christ's death on the cross accomplish?

This compact yet penetrating anthology takes an unwavering, classically biblical stance that reaffirms the doctrine of substitutionary atonement—that Jesus Christ willingly suffered and died for us, taking on the burden of our sins in order to restore our relationship with God— and counters the increasingly numerous arguments against it. With this idea under widespread attack, there has never been a better time for the enthusiastic reaffirmation of this fundamental doctrine.

This eBook includes three classic articles by noted biblical scholar James I. Packer—"The Heart of the Gospel"; his Tyndale Biblical Theology Lecture, "What Did the Cross Achieve?"; and his introductory essay to John Owen’s The Death of Death in the Death of Christ—along with Mark Dever’s recent article, "Nothing but the Blood." It also features "Books on the Cross of Christ," by Ligon Duncan, an extensive compilation and annotated bibliography of books and sermons for further reading on the subject of substitutionary atonement.

Memoirs of an Ordinary Pastor

New!   Memoirs of an Ordinary Pastor

D. A. Carson’s father was a pioneering church-planter and pastor in Quebec. But still, an ordinary pastor—except that he ministered during the decades that brought French Canada from the brutal challenges of persecution and imprisonment for Baptist ministers to spectacular growth and revival in the 1970s.

It is a story, and an era, that few in the English-speaking world know anything about. Using Tom Carson’s journals and written prayers, along with narrative and historical background supplied by his son, Memoirs of an Ordinary Pastor weaves together a firsthand account of a critical period in North American church history with the inspiring story of one pastor’s life and times, dreams and disappointments.

With words that ring true for all who have devoted themselves to the Lord’s work, this unique book serves to remind readers that though the sacrifices of serving God are great, the sweetness of living a faithful, obedient life is greater still.

New Developments at Olive Tree

Mobile Devices Image
  • New BibleReader for BlackBerry: A new version of BibleReader for BlackBerry is in alpha testing—the final development stage before a beta version is released to the public. It offers many new features and has received extremely positive responses so far. The new BibleReader will also mean a greatly expanded library of Olive Tree resources available for the BlackBerry platform. If you are a BlackBerry user interested in helping beta-test this new program, keep an eye on our BlackBerry Forums for more information. We hope to release it for public beta testing by the end of July.

  • New, Faster BibleReader for Palm: A new build of BibleReader is available for ARM Palm devices. This build will only run on Palm units with an ARM processor and running Palm OS 5.0 or greater (and not Sony Clie). Built specially for the ARM processor, this BibleReader runs signficiantly faster, allowing quick navigation and reducing search time by 50% or more. Because this version is still in beta, we've named it aBibleReader, allowing you to have both BibleReader versions installed at the same time on your Palm device. Click here for more information and to download the new ARM Palm BibleReader.

  • Apple Developers Conference: Olive Tree engineers recently returned from the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco, CA. "The environment couldn't have been better for networking among developers," said Drew, Olive Tree owner and CEO, who met programmers from around the world and had the opportunity to talk with developers who wrote the code for the Apple iPhone. Olive Tree is always developing new technology and expanding BibleReader's functionality to new platforms. Stay tuned for future developments!

  • 2009 Christian Book Expo: Will we see you in Dallas, Texas at the 2009 Christian Book Expo?
