G/K & Strong’s Number Pop-Ups

Open the NIV Word Study Bible you’ll see that some words are a slightly different color. Tapping or clicking on those words will pop-up the information for that word. These pop-ups contain a wealth of information, including:

  1. The Goodrick-Kohlenberger (G/K) Key numbers and Strong’s numbers for that word
  2. A short definition
  3. An outlined list of the different meanings for that word in the original language
  4. Often you will also find a hyperlinked number that can show you other similar words

Look-Up Options

At the bottom of the pop-up, there are two buttons that help you quickly search based on the word and/or Strong’s number.

Look-up by Keyed Number

The first button contains the keyed number for your word. Clicking or tapping on this button will perform a search in your library for articles containing this number.

Look-up by Original Language

The second button contains the word in its original language. Clicking or tapping on this word will perform a search in your library for articles about the word in its original language.  For example, I see that Mounce’s Complete Expository Dictionary has an article on this word.

      Yes, it is based on the 2011 edition of the NIV.

    Is the Windows Store app going to have the same features? It does not show me the GK Numbers. Also on the popup screen for the word, I do not have the option to lookup the Strong’s Number or the original word.

      Shannon, there are not immediate plans to update the Windows Store app to display GK numbers, but I will pass along the request to our development team. Our Windows Store app is more limited in its functionality but we are working to continually improve it within the limitations that the platform provides.

    Does this have the standard NIV Study Bible notes as well as the word study?

    I have purchased the NIV Word Study Bible. It appears on my iPhone and iPad, but not on my Mac Air or Mac Mini (both running OS X 10.10.4). I purchased the Archeological Study Bible Notes at the same time, and it appears on all my devices. I have the latest Mac version (5.4.3.1), and have closed down BibleReader and restarted it, and also shutdown my Mac and restarted it. NIV Word Study Bible just doesn’t show up. 🙁

      Noel, at this time the NIV Word Study Bible does not work on our Mac app. Our Mac app is the last remaining app that needs updating to work with our new file format, which we anticipate having out by the end of the year.

        Oh. 🙁 I missed any mention that it was not currently compatible with the Mac. I look forward to the Mac update.

    Do you have plans to provide the older version of the NIV in any form for the app? If not, would you please consider it?

      We are only able to provide the NIV 2011 edition per our agreement with the publisher.

    Where can I find a description of the meanings of the values shown in the popup.
    I know the meaning of the two buttons but in the text it makes mention of the “root” of the word and how many occurrences of meaning etc. this is important to understand …

      You can find more details by tapping “View Full Definition” or tap on the Strong’s code to learn more about the root word(s).
