Using the Thompson Chain Reference Study Bible

There are a couple of different ways to use the NIV Thompson Chain Reference Study Bible. There are two indexes (alphabetical and numerical) in the back of the resource that allow you to navigate to the topic you’re studying. If you are simply starting with biblical text, however, then this tool will show you which topics are addressed in each verse. For example, if you’re reading Psalm 110 and come to verse 4, “The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: ‘You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek,’” you see three topics addressed in this verse: God’s Oaths, Priesthood of Christ, and Melchizedek. Each of these topics have a topic number assigned to it and a Scripture reference to the next primary verse in the chain.

If we tap on the topic number to the Priesthood of Christ, then we see all the references and subtopics to the Priesthood of Christ. This is where we learn that the priesthood refers to “the office of man’s representatives before God.” Here are the rest of the verses and subtopics related to the Priesthood of Christ.
