Quick Tip: TDNT & HALOT Quick Dictionary Lookup

We love making it easy for you to read and study the Bible—wherever you are. This is especially true with original language study. Instead of hunting down dictionaries and lexicons, we put it at your fingertips. In this post, we’re going to show you how to use the lookup feature to access HALOT and TDNT entries. Specifically, we’ll be using the BHS Parsed and ESV Greek-English Interlinear Bible.

BHS & HALOT

Step 1: BHS

Find a word you want to study in-depth. Then, tap on that word to get a basic definition and parsing information. Next, tap on “Lookup” to begin searching your dictionaries!

Find your dictionary! In this case, we selected HALOT.

Step 3: LEARN

Read the entry for your word in the resource you selected.

Greek-English Interlinear & TDNT

These steps work exactly the same way for Greek resources. We’ll perform the same steps to lookup a Greek word in our ESV Greek-English Interlinear Bible.

Step 1: Interlinear

Find a word you want to study and tap on it. Then tap the “Lookup” button.

Find the dictionary/lexicon that you want to read. We’ve selected the TDNT.

Read your entry in the TDNT.

Other Resources

This lookup feature isn’t just limited to HALOT and TDNT. Use it to lookup words in any of your lexicons or dictionaries. For example, tap on a Strong’s tagged word and follow the same steps!

Want to find entries on Moses? Select his name in your English Bible and perform a lookup on his name.

    So does this mean this feature is fixed on Android? After latest update trying to look up a word from Analytical NT would force close app….could never get to TDNT.

      Chuck, we just released an update to our Android app today that should address that issue. If it doesn’t, please contact our customer support team at support@olivetree.com

        The update did not fix this issue for me. Emailed your support but so far all i have got from them in the past is to follow the steps in your help section. Maybe i can get it fixed this time. I have used your app since Palm and recommended it to many of my congregation, but if this is not fixed i will be forced to delete and move to another app like Logos. Sad thing is I like this app more but if it force closes all the time I cannot use it in my teaching.

    Please help. I had just purchased TWOT after reading this article. I purchased through https://www.olivetree.com/store/product.php?productid=16753 . From the product page, it said TWOT is enhanced for resource guide, but the Mac version of OliveTree Bible app does TWOT in resource guide (TWOT doesn’t even appear in preference of resource guide). Lookup of lemma in Parsed BHS or Strong’s numbers bibles give no result with TWOT. I also found the TWOT does work with resource guide in my Android phone as you described in this page. However, I use my macbook most of the time in church office. Please advise how can I use TWOT in mac version with resource guide or lookup of lemma words. Thanks. If this issue could not be fixed, please refund, because the product I received is not as described as you advertised. Thanks.
