Well known for his eloquent but familiar style, Charles Haddon Spurgeon won a large following in 19th Century Britain and his popularity among Christians of all denominations continues to this day. He frequently spoke to crowds numbering over 10,000 in the days before electronic amplification. A prolific writer, many of Spurgeon's works remain in print to this day.
