Description
In Radical Worship the reader will learn that the foundation of all our lives is the worship of God. The author reclaims the biblical meaning of worship, stepping away from the popular meanings used today. He discusses the direct relationship between submitting to God and the re-creation of who we are in Christ. He focuses on the words that are translated worship in both the Old Testament and the New Testament. Additionally, the significance of worship is examined through Jesus' responses to the question, “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” The author critiques some of the narrowness of formulaic Christianity and unfolds some of the many expressions of worship that Jesus explicitly affirms.

The extensive study guide included in the book will greatly facilitate the reader to put what is learned into practice in their lives. This book is good for both individual and group reading and discussion.

Reviews

"This book is a testimony of faith that arises out of deep conviction and profound hope for the flourishing of the church. It is a book that paints with bright, vivid colors as it explores the transformative power of radical worship. Of particular note is its attention to the good news that emerges out of reflecting on the kind of worship that God does not seek—and the joy and freedom that we discover when we exchange these burdensome approaches for the fullness of trinitarian worship. — John D. Witvliet, Calvin Institute of Christian Worship Grand Rapids, MI

"In Radical Worship, Larry Ellis continually focuses on the core issues of worship and manages to avoid getting caught up in what everyone usually expects from such a book (What's the right music? How long should the sermon be? How expressive should our body posture be? etc) The central portion of the book, presenting the three avenues of worship, will be a tremendous help to many as we think about what it means to worship God. This is an excellent book." — Jim Watters, Ph.D., Bible translator and linguistic consultant, Wycliffe Bible Translators

"Within the very first pages of this book, author Larry Ellis writes, 'I wrote this book for those God-seekers who long to be connected to God.' Indeed. Dr. Ellis gives the reader a glimpse into his heart and his intent for this book, to lead the reader to a place of greater encounter with God through private, lifestyle, and corporate worship practices. Framing this encounter within a solid biblical, historical, and theological context sets Dr. Ellis' description of radical Christian worship on a firm foundation." — Dr. James R. Hart President, The Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies

"Dr. Larry Ellis gives us a comprehensive look at true, biblical worship, addressing both individual and community worship. This scholarly treatment of worship cuts through subjective preference and emotion and gives us a solid, biblical understanding of what it means to become true worshipers. A must read for worship leaders everywhere."
— Dr. Don W. Barrick, Worship Pastor, The Woodlands First Baptist Church, TX

Everywhere I look, the churches I visit, and people I talk to reinforce the fact that seekers of Christ are tired of programs, legalism, and those who would build their own 'church.' People are becoming hungry for God, to know him, walk with him, and to do his will. I believe Larry Ellis reveals the true heart of God in this book." Roberta Hunter, Headmaster, Sequoia Christian Academy, Delano CA
