The Christian Standard Commentary (CSC) adopts both an ancient and a modern approach to commentary.
- It affirms a modern approach to commentary by:
- analyzing Old and New Testament books in their original languages
- presenting and explaining significant text-critical problems as appropriate
- addressing and defining historical situations that gave rise to the text
- identifying and explaining literary styles, structures, and rhetorical devices
- expounding on literary themes and motifs that advance the book's strategies
This series also adheres to the more ancient practice that recognizes that the Bible as fundamentally the Word of God, beyond its existance as a historical and literary document. This includes:
- addressing the subject of who is God and how he relates to the world
- explaining the centrality of Jesus in the light of a whole-Bible theology
- interpreting the biblical text spiritually for the transformative potential to be released for the church
The volumes in this set will help the reader understand each biblical book’s theology, its place in the broader narrative of Scripture, and its importance for the church today. Drawing on the wisdom and skills of dozens of evangelical authors and top biblical scholars, the CSC is a tool for enhancing and supporting the life of the church.
The Christian Standard Commentary Series will appeal to everyone from pastors and seminary students to lay leaders and those interested in the works of the individual contributors.
